If your access to mapped drives are slow, see if you are using DFS (Distributed File System) on any servers. Here is the fix:

Enumerating Access Permissions

Here's a little tool you might want to stick in your bag of tricks. Say you're copying a directory and, for some reason, you cannot preserve the file and directory permissions. (This can happen on a restore or a domain move without a trust.)

AccessEnum will show you the file and directory permissions of a folder and its sub-directories. I use it by choosing to show only the differences from the parent. This lets me quickly find the permssions to reset after copying/restoring the files.

Symantec Live Update "LU1834: Update not found."

We often see the following error when running Symantec Live Update: LU1834: Update not found. LiveUpdate could not find an update file on the server . . ." Although most resolutions from Symantec show that you should "wait a day and try again" we have found that waiting does not resolve the problem. Instead install the latest version of Live Update. Here is a Symantec link to a Live Update AutoFix tool here.

Windows Desktop Search - How to remove

Windows Desktop Search (WDS) may be installed on your computer. It is an optional component of Windows Updates/Microsoft Updates. Windows Desktop Search may impact your computer's performance (as will any desktop search engine) and increase disk activity. If you want to remove use Add/Remove Programs and remove Window Desktop Search <x.xx> where x.xx is the version number. (see more... for possible residual problems.)

Dell Optiplex 745 computers cannot start in normal mode after installing Symantec AntiVirus 10.1

We have seen several cases of new Dell Optiplex 745 computers that will not boot after installing Symantec AntiVirus 10.1. The computers begin to boot and then hang at a black screen. Safe Mode works but you cannot boot normally. This is a known problem with Symantec. The following resolution has been successful in our our testing (You will have to create registry key)...

Flash Player not working in Internet Explorer 7

Some web pages that use embedded Adobe Flash (like Auctiva scrolling items) do not run properly even though Flash is installed. Flash works properly on other pages.

Even after re-installing Flash these pages do not detect Flash installed. While Adobe has numerous troubleshooting techniques for this many people have reported no success in repairing the problem.

We have encountered a scenario where we were able to repair the problem by registering vbscript.dll. (See more... below for other possible solutions.)
